University of Chicago’s COVID-19 Community Support Initiative Passes 125,000 Meal Mark for South Side Community Members
In partnership with the Greater Chicago Food Depository, UChicago is now providing meals at more than 20 sites across the University’s nine-neighborhood focus area, and is on track to meet 225,000 meals by mid-June.

79 COVID-impacted South Side nonprofits will receive grant funding from the University of Chicago to help address their immediate needs and continue their vital programming.
University of Chicago Awards $112,000 in Rent Relief and $110,000 in Immediate COVID-19 Operating Grants to 18 Small Business Tenants
UChicago issued the first wave of operating grants and rent relief to help our small business tenants weather the COVID-19 crisis. The financial support for University tenants is one element of the institution’s South Side community support initiative launched on March 30.

Virtual Event: 2020 Social New Venture Challenge Finals
The John Edwardson, ’72, Social New Venture Challenge (SNVC) has helped to jump-start more than 100 startups that went on to raise more than $35 million. The program will culminate with finalist teams presenting to a panel of distinguished judges and competing for at least $100,000 in cash prizes.
The Office of Civic Engagement fosters UChicago’s university-wide approach to civic engagement and serves as a gateway to the South Side and the city, connecting the University to our neighbors.
