Attend this informational to learn more about the Logan Center for the Arts' 16-week Production Institute for South Side media artists offered this summer, and to meet instructors, program staff, and learn more about program offerings.

About this Event

The Production Institute, a program of the Digital Storytelling Initiative, makes high-quality digital media production training more accessible to emerging filmmakers ages 19 and up from Chicago’s South Side. 

The aim of the Production Institute is to provide skills enhancement and engage artists in telling stories of the rich culture of their communities and institutions. Participants will collaborate on short narrative and documentary projects selected by their cohort. 

Participants will also contribute to the #MadeAtLogan Docuseries, a program to document the artistic and civic engagement of the Logan Center with its South Side neighbors. The resulting #MadeAtLogan projects will build the artists’ capacity, showcase new media art, and strengthen neighborhood connections.

Eligibility:

+ 19+ South Side resident

+ Emerging filmmaker

+ Must have demonstrated skills in camera operation

+ Attend all Film Aesthetics screenings

+ Make $100 deposit for program participation

+ Not currently enrolled in a school or college program

+ must participate in #MadeAtLogan docu-series

 

PROGRAM DATES 

Monday, April 20: Program Informational Session

April 20–May 15: Application Open 

May 4, 6, 11 & 13: Film Aesthetics** (mandatory)

May 15: Application Deadline

June 8: Cohort Announced

June 24–Sep 12: Production Institute Courses in Directing, Cinematography, Sound, and Editing

 

HOW TO APPLY

Participants must attend four consecutive Film Aesthetics screenings (mandatory) and submit an application with at least one work sample by May 15.

ABOUT THE PRODUCTION INSTITUTE

The Logan Center for the Arts’ Digital Storytelling Initiative, a program of the Jonathan Logan Family Foundation Media Center and Logan Center Community Arts, will work in partnership with the Community Film Workshop of Chicago to launch a Production Institute for its South Side constituents, consisting of hands-on professional production courses for media makers. The Production Institute, a program of the Digital Storytelling Initiative, makes high-quality digital media production training more accessible to emerging filmmakers ages 19 and up who are not enrolled in a school or college program and live on Chicago’s South Side. The aim of the Production Institute is to provide skills enhancement and engage artists in telling stories of the rich culture of their communities and institutions.
