Mark your calendars and bring a friend to UChicago’s annual Movies on the Midway summer event series! Hosted by the Office of Civic Engagement in partnership with the Chicago Park District, Movies on the Midway returns on Wednesdays this year, starting July 10 and wrapping up August 7. Each week, attendees can enjoy a free movie and interactive programming for the entire family. All activities will take place starting at 7 p.m. at 1130 Midway Plaisance, between Ellis and University avenues. Movies start at sunset.
Movie-goers can flock to the Midway to watch Migration on July 10 and enjoy storytime with family-friendly singer-storyteller Colin McDonald of 57th Street Books. On July 17, the Southside Jiu Jitsu Club will lead an interactive martial arts demonstration before the Turtle brothers take to the screen in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem. Learn about the science behind Elemental on July 24 when UChicago's Materials Research Science and Engineering Center hosts interactive demos with air cannons and dry ice.
On July 31, come with us to a world of pure imagination as Wonka hits the screen. Attendees can make their own trail mix with UChicago Dining and Chartwells, and the first 100 children will receive a free chocolate covered pretzel. The movie series wraps up August 7 with The Little Mermaid, when the Shedd Aquarium will lead hands-on activities exploring the world under the sea.
