The Office of Special Programs: It's a Family Affair!

Faulkner Family Crop 2

The Office of Special Programs-College Prep believes positive and lasting change for students is a family affair. Efforts to improve the lives of students begin with supporting their parents, guardians, and other caregivers. Marguerite Faulkner and her family are one example of how the Office of Special Programs has provided positive experiences for multiple generations within the same family.

The Faulkner family has a 21-year history with the Office of Special Programs, that started in 1998 when Marguerite enrolled her daughter Martinique in the program. It’s no surprise that Granddaughter Mackenzy, a current 9th grader, is following the family tradition. Marguerite expressed her enthusiasm for the Office of Special Programs, saying that it helped daughter Martinique stay active and engaged in school. Marguerite believes “the Office of Special Programs will be a great benefit in helping my granddaughter Mackenzy to stay focused and persistent in her studies. The tutoring and extra supports that the Office of Special Programs provides will help motivate Mackenzy to complete homework, to be open to learning about new things and the importance of being prepared for changing roles in the work environment as technology gains importance across every professional sector”.

Marguerite doesn’t solely think of the Office of Special Programs as a place to improve upon one’s academic skills; she sees it as a “close-knit family, where you meet “lifelong friends.”

Mackenzy, like many other students, says that she didn’t chose to attend the Office of Special Programs at first.  She became a participant because it is what her mother and grandmother wanted her to do – but now she enjoys the program and all of the resources she is able to access by being a part of the Office of Special Programs.
