Present & Thriving: Students' attendance, connectedness, and well-being at school
New research from the UChicago Consortium on School Research and IWERC (Illinois Workforce and Education Research Collaborative) show the clear connection between students' attendance and learning. Students with lower attendance rates had lower grades and test scores; higher attendance rates meant higher grades and test scores.
And the Consortium research points to a key opportunity: schools can and do influence students’ attendance. School climate and culture is more connected to attendance today than ever before. A focus on students’ experiences in, engagement with, and connection to school is critical.
At the same time, students and their families are managing complex needs - for safety, transportation, housing security, mental health supports - that can make it hard to consistently attend school.
The Kersten Institute for Urban Education and the Illinois Workforce and Education Research Collaborative (IWERC) welcome you to join the conversation on March 6th with an outstanding group of cross-sector experts and practitioners across the city and state who are taking a holistic view of students’ experiences.
As this is an in-person gathering, space will be limited.
RSVP by February 18.
