Portraits of Activism with photographer KK Ottesen

John Lewis. Dolores Huerta. Jeanne Mancini. Bill McKibben. Tarana Burke.

Across a spectrum of causes, sectors, and ideologies, these are some of the activists who have shaped American politics in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Photographer and author KK Ottesen captures the visions and passions of some of the most influential activists in her new photo essay book  Activist: Portraits of Change.

Now, join as the University of Chicago Institute of Politics welcomes Ms. Ottesen for a conversation on her book, its subjects, and what she learned in trying to distill the essences of America’s change-makers. In addition to authoring Great Americans, Ottesen contributes to major national publications, such as The Washington Post Magazine and Esquire. Ottesen will discuss her experience of creating ACTIVIST as well as her understanding and perspective of American activism in the modern era.
