Perspectives: A Conversation with Dr. Janice Jackson

Perspectives: A Conversation with Dr. Janice Jackson

Chicago Public Schools (CPS) is a large and diverse education system serving children and youth of different racial, ethnic, and economic backgrounds. More than 80% of its student population identify as Black or brown and nearly 19% are bilingual. And many must overcome financial hardship, made all the more pronounced by the pandemic, on their path to success in college, career, and civic life. For the inaugural event in Harris’ “Perspectives” speaker series, an initiative of Harris’ Office of Diversity & Inclusion, join Dr. Janice K. Jackson, EdD, the CEO of Chicago Public Schools (CPS), for an in-depth discussion on how CPS is advancing principles of equity and inclusivity in the curricula and culture of the third-largest school district in the United States to improve educational outcomes for all children, one of the key priorities during her time in office.

Held quarterly, Harris’ “Perspectives” series features policy leaders and scholars with diverse viewpoints and lived experiences who are confronting crucial questions of diversity, equity, and inclusion in their work to advance social justice through innovative policies. The theme for this year’s series is education as we dive into challenging topics such race, equity, and disparate impact at various levels in the system.
