Innovating for Social Equity: Anchoring Economic Growth in Chicago

Corporations have significant power to invest as anchor institutions in the communities where they choose to operate, serving as potential catalysts to increase opportunities for economic inclusion.

On January 24, join the Innovating for Social Equity: Anchoring Economic Growth in Chicago event to hear three Chicagoland CEOs discuss how they developed corporate initiatives that were good both for business and for advancing economic inclusion in neighborhoods that have faced disinvestment and racial injustice.

Moderated by Derek Douglas, President of the Civic Committee and Commercial Club of Chicago, the event will highlight:

  • How Discover challenged conventional wisdom to open a call center in the South Side neighborhood of Chatham
  • How ComEd partnered with community members to create the United States’ first neighborhood-scale microgrid project in Bronzeville
  • How Illinois Tool Works deepened its commitment to inclusive economic opportunity in the west side neighborhoods of Austin and Belmont Craigen.

Members of the University of Chicago community and broader public interested in economic inclusion, racial and ethnic equity and community development are invited to attend.

This event is in-person only and open to the public.

The Innovating for Social Equity series aims to examine cross-sector efforts to tackle the seemingly intractable barriers to a society and economy that work for all.
