A Rare Look Inside Chicago’s History at the UChicago Library

For one evening only, the UChicago Library will present rare selections from the Ida B. Wells Collection, offering an intimate look at materials not normally on public display that document Chicago’s Black history and community life.

The program will feature a talk by Rashauna Johnson, UChicago Associate Professor and historian of the 19th-century African diaspora, exploring the life and legacy of Ida B. Wells – a well-known journalist, anti-lynching activist, and pioneering feminist. Attendees will also learn about community archiving initiatives from the Black Metropolis Research Consortium and about the UChicago Library’s ongoing work with Hyde Park and Chicago-area communities.

Co-hosted by UChicago alumni Brittany Dino, AM’13, and Juana Harper, AB’74, this event highlights how archives preserve, protect, and uplift the stories that shape our city.

Select materials from the Ida B. Wells Collection will be on display throughout the evening.
