University of Chicago's Youth Internship Program offers paid job opportunities to South Side high school students, enhancing their peer networks and exposing them to college and career options.
The program provides professional development activities and access to guest speakers, aiming to enhance students' internship experience. The program, in partnership with One Summer Chicago, has supported 85 students and is offering an opportunity for 50 new students this year. The redesigned program offers a two-year experience, focusing on career immersion and readiness, with internships in departments such as Cancer Clinical Trials, Psychology, Information Technology, and Computer Science. Future plans include expanding career clusters based on student feedback to broaden internship placements.
