WTTW: University of Chicago examines connection between poverty and child welfare

Families living in poverty that are a part of the child welfare system have children that are likely to be neglected rather than abused. As a result, Child Protective Services investigations do not help as much as anticipated. University of Chicago research demonstrates that in order to best support these children, direct economic and financial support is needed, including housing, cash payments, and child care subsides.
