Tech Savvy Friends, a student-led organization at the University of Chicago, has joined forces with Chicago Hyde Park Village to provide valuable technology assistance to senior citizens. The program aims to bridge the digital divide by pairing college students proficient in technology with older adults eager to learn. Through peer-to-peer learning, seniors gain proficiency in using payment platforms like Zelle, CashApp, and Venmo, as well as making online purchases.
Tech Savvy Friends hosts regular sessions at Augustana Church, offering hands-on training and guidance. The initiative has not only enriched the lives of the senior participants but also provided a rewarding experience for the student volunteers. This intergenerational connection has created a sense of community and engagement beyond the university campus, fostering a deeper understanding between the older and younger generations.
