Chicago Defender: UChicago launches initiative to help combat gun violence across America

Community Violence Intervention Leadership Academy

The University of Chicago Community Violence Intervention Leadership Academy (CVILA) welcomes leaders from 21 U.S. cities to address community violence. CVILA aims to equip senior and executive leaders with the skills to disrupt cycles of violence in communities of color. Participants will undergo a six-month curriculum covering program management, workforce retention, data literacy, and more, culminating in community-focused projects. Researchers will assess the program's impact on violence reduction, and prominent figures, including Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul and former Chicago Police Superintendent Charlie Beck, support CVILA's mission of safer communities through collaborative community intervention efforts.
