Midweek on the Midway Summer Movie Series Begins July 11
The Pixar hit Coco, about a young boy who dreams of becoming a musician, opens the Office of Civic Engagement's annual summer movie series, Midweek on the Midway. The movies in the park will run weekly from July 11 to August 8, when the series wraps up with Leap!, the heartwarming tale of Félicie and Victor who escape their orphanage in pursuit of their dreams. Before each movie, there will be a youth-oriented activity led by a campus or community partner beginning at 7 p.m. Movies will start after sunset.

July 11 | Coco
Moviegoers will explore the basics of animation and what brings characters like Miguel to life by making their very own stop motion character when the Museum of Science and Industry brings its newest exhibit, the Science Behind Pixar to the Midway.
July 25 | Star Wars: The Last Jedi
Real life female astrophysicists, planetary scientists, and exoplaneteers from the University of Chicago Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics will lead activities about the force of outer space and magic of lightsabres.
August 1 | Cars 3 POSTPONED TO AUGUST 15
The University of Chicago Police Department will open up some of its vehicles to let moviegoers climb aboard and make believe. Officers will be on hand to collect canned food donations for the Feed1st Food Pantries at the University of Chicago Medicine.
New this year, the Office of Civic Engagement is holding a weekly photo contest on Instagram. Moviegoers will tag a photo of themselves at a movie to be entered into a random drawing for prizes donated by the following local businesses: Chant, Dearborn Denim & Apparel, First Aid Comics, Greenline Coffee, Jolly Pumpkin, Medici on 57th, Pearle Vision, Roti Modern Mediterranean, Sprocket and Stone, Te’Amo Boba Bar, and Vanille Pâtisserie.
