State and Local Government Relations

The University of Chicago advances its research and education priorities at the state level through collaboration and coordination with Illinois agencies, elected officials, and other policymakers.

Our focus is on advancing the University’s research, education and patient care missions. We also work on city permitting and zoning issues relating to University projects.

The state and local team provides assistance to faculty, students, and staff in promoting the University as an essential resource in the development of public policy.

We engage with elected officials in Springfield on a wide range of issues, including higher education policy, advancing science and research, elementary and secondary education, matters impacting the University’s charter school, public health and Medicaid. We identify funding opportunities for University priorities. We assist faculty members who are seeking opportunities to interact with public officials.
