The 2020 UChicago Folk Festival continues February 14-15, 2020!


Join the Hyde Park Historical Society in celebrating the benchmark 60th Anniversary of the UChicago Folk Festival, the acclaimed longest running student organized folk festival in the country.

Three speakers, each with a unique perspective, will pay homage to the Festival:

Garth Taylor

UChicago alumnus (PHD, Sociology), past UChicago faculty member, musician, and founder,  School of American Music, Three Oaks, MI, established in 2012. Taylor will discuss the impact of the UChicago Folk Festival on the repertoire of the School of American Music.

Bob Kass

President of the Folklore Society the third year of the Festival. Mr., Kass will play select recordings on 78 rpm records of early Folk Fest performances.

Mark Guarino

Writer and journalist, who is writing a book on the history of folk music in Chicago (to be published by UChicago Press). Guarino will respond to the music Kass plays and to Taylor’s remarks and will also present some little known Folk Festival lore.
