Diverse Books and Open Conversations – "There There" by Tommy Orange

Join a discussion of "There There" by Tommy Orange, the Winter Quarter Diverse Book, the first in the Library's series Diverse Books & Open Conversations.

"There There," a portrait of lives and relationships of contemporary “urban Indians,” recounts the interconnected stories of multiple narrators. Each one, speaking from their own perspective and drawing from their own experiences, is preparing for an upcoming powwow. Orange directly addresses issues of assimilation, bureaucracy, activism and cultural preservation with a deft touch.

Diverse Books & Open Conversations strives to enhance campus climate and build community through a shared experience, bringing together undergraduate students, graduate/professional students, faculty, staff, alumni and local community members to read the same book and engage in dialogues across campus. We aim for this reading group to foster engagement in critical conversations around diversity and inclusion.
