2020 AFRICAN AMERICAN ALUMNI COMMITTEE SYMPOSIUM: "THE BLACK VOTE"

As the 2020 United States presidential election approaches, an important vote for the presidential candidates to consider is that of Black American citizens.

This symposium will present a series of panels and intergenerational dialogues that connect the history of voting in America for Black citizens, and strategies community organizations and Black social workers can employ to usher in a more equitable America by influencing the 2020 presidential election. The symposium hopes to contextualize “The Black Vote” discussion through the lens of Black social workers. They will employ historical reflections on voting patterns and community organizing to galvanize Black voters in achieving economic, political, and social equality in connection to contemporary outcomes.
