Students, faculty and staff take part in the University of Chicago’s Innovation Showcase competition in the Winter Garden of the Harper Center Thursday, May 29, 2014, at the Chicago Booth School of Business.

By harnessing the intellectual power, creativity, and business acumen of UChicago students, alumni, and local professionals, the New Venture Challenge aims to launch start-ups that provide effective, thoughtful solutions to major problems faced in a broad range of industries — including technology, healthcare, energy, and education. Since it began in 1996, the New Venture Challenge has launched more than 150 companies still in business, which together have raised more than $500 million in funding and achieved $3.7 billion in exit value, spurring job creation and growth in and beyond the regional economy.
