The Civic Knowledge Project (CKP), a program of the University of Chicago Office of Civic Engagement,  uses the humanities to develop and strengthen UChicago's community connections to neighboring mid-South Side communities, helping to foster civic friendship and overcome social, economic, and racial divisions. Believing that the free and reciprocal flow of humanities-based knowledge is empowering for all, the project seeks to "Let knowledge grow from more to more; and so be human life enriched."

The Civic Knowledge Project's community-oriented programs highlight the vital role of the humanities in public life, as a key part of the public good demonstrating the virtues of civic friendship and communities of inquiry.
